Our mission. <\/h2>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

For the past three decades, we at the young.hope Research Centre for Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine have been conducting research into metabolic diseases as well as nutritional and developmental disorders that may occur in children between their birth and the onset of puberty.<\/p>\n

A special focus is placed on the treatment of children and adolescents with rare diseases, of which about 4,000 people are affected in Austria alone. The young.hope Research Centre is, in fact, one of only few institutions worldwide that specialise in metabolic diseases and energy metabolism disorders, which are a frequent cause of rare health conditions. We also treat many children that were prematurely born and therefore experience problems in their development.<\/p>\n

The young.hope Research Centre for Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine has emerged from a longstanding cooperation of the University Hospital Salzburg and Paracelsus Medical University. Our interdisciplinary team of physicians from different disciplines and a group of paediatric, genetic and natural science experts work closely together to diagnose sick children quickly and develop the best possible treatment solutions for them.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n <\/div>\n

With rare diseases, such as those experienced by our patients, the road from the first consultation to the onset of appropriate treatment is often a long and winding one. Yet we at young.hope won’t be discouraged. Even in case of unclear symptoms, lack of comparable case studies, or limited study availability \u2013 we are determined to stay on the case, for our patients’ benefit. This is how we want to give hope to our young patients and their families.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n <\/div>\n

We have successfully developed therapies for rare or globally unique disorders, so that those affected can lead a normal life. In some cases, children and adolescents were even able to fully make up for the developmental setbacks related to their illness because the proper treatment was found in time.<\/p>\n

Research is needed to be able to continuously offer young people with metabolic, nutritional and developmental disorders the best possible treatment. And this research needs funding.<\/p>\n
